Mike O'Hara, Director, Operations and Business Development - Global Furniture
Mike O’Hara joined UL in 1996, serving in many capacities including project engineer, account executive and business development, with increasing responsibility. He has also held leadership positions in several UL Product Safety divisions including Performance Materials, Wire & Cable, Power Distribution, Industrial Control Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment.
Mike was previously the General Manager of global nutraceuticals services for the UL Consumer Products division. In that role, Mike was responsible for the development of a product registration and UL Verified Mark program for the dietary supplement industry. Through extensive consumer research and contribution from manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, trade associations, government officials and other stakeholders, he and the UL team of developers have launched a new web-based approach to meet the needs of the industry - Dietary Supplement Product Registry , a proprietary on-line database, is specifically designed to drive transparency for the quality assurance efforts of dietary supplement manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers.
Mike has been instrumental in developing a strategic partnership with the Natural Products Association (NPA) as well as two cooperative UL/NPA programs – GMP Training and Education Platform and GMP Certification Program.
Dan Kolean, Laboratory Manager -- Holland, MI
Dan brings over 25 years of experience providing exemplary customer service and systems maintenance in the Automotive, Furniture, and IT industries. Dan worked at Herman Miller as an Engineering Test Laboratory Technician, which allows him to understand the customer’s perspective as they search for an accredited third party testing lab. Dan is responsible for performance testing operations in Holland, maintaining A2LA Accreditation, training the AFT lab’s technicians, and equipment calibration.
Brian Truelove, Laboratory Manager -- Jasper, IN
Brian utilizes more than 20 years of experience in the Furniture Manufacturing, Metal Fabrication, and Quality Control industries to run performance testing operations, maintain accreditations, and calibrate test machines. Brian attributes much of his in-depth furniture testing knowledge to his work at OFS, Versteel and Kimball International. During his time at OFS, Brian was tasked with creating an accredited furniture test lab, which he accomplished in one year. During that same year, he joined seven BIFMA standard drafting committees and was selected as Chairman of the Healthcare standards drafting committee. In 2014, Brian joined Advanced Furniture Testing. Under his supervision, the Jasper lab has maintained A2LA accreditation and performs BIFMA X5.1, X5.3, X5.5, X5.5, X5.9, X5.11, ANSI KCMA, and BHMA testing. He also uses his experience to help create custom tests and works with customers to identify ways of replicating field related problems.
