UL Introduces UL 4041 to Provide Rigorous Outdoor Furniture Safety Certification Document that Helps Advance Product Quality, Mitigate Risk

MARIETTA, GA., October 16, 2018 — In response to a growing number of incidents and injuries that occur each year with outdoor furniture usage, UL today announced the development of a rigorous science-based safety certification document for outdoor furniture to help retailers and consumers identify safer furniture. Data from the Consumer Product Safety Commission reveals that nearly three million outdoor furniture products were recalled between 2016 and 2018 due to safety risks and problems. [...]

BIFMA will host a UL’s webinar on: SPOT App for Revit® – Increasing LEVEL Certified Product Visibility to A&D

When it comes to selecting BIFMA LEVEL certified products, architects and designers (A&D) need credible sources to find this information in a way that fits into their current work flow. To make product selection less challenging and less time consuming, UL is developing new tools that will plug LEVEL data directly into BIM platforms. The first application UL developed is SPOT for Revit®, and it will allow A&D to add LEVEL certified furniture directly into the tool straight from the SPOT for Revit® database. [...]

Just Launched – Wellness Certification Program for Products

In an effort to continue providing programs to aid architects and designers in the facilitation of healthier products for their green building projects, UL Environment has launched a Wellness Certification program for products designed to help demonstrate a product’s contribution to requirements in the WELL Building Standard. The Wellness Certification can apply to products such as furniture, interior paints and coatings, adhesives and sealants, insulation and lighting. UL’s Wellness Certification requires each product to meet the applicable requirements listed in the WELL Building Standard, and can evaluate additional criteria as requested. [...]

EPA Extends Compliance Dates for the Formaldehyde Emission Standards for Composite Wood Products Rule

The dates for compliance to the EPA Formaldehyde Emission Standards for Composite Wood Products rule have been extended. EPA has made a prepublication of this rule available here. The final rule extends: The December 12, 2017 date for emission standards, recordkeeping, and labeling provisions until December 12, 2018; The December 12, 2018 date for import certification provisions until March 22, 2019; and The December 12, 2023 date for provisions applicable to producers of laminated products until March 22, 2024.
