The BIFMA e3 Furniture Sustainability standard was updated and released in October 2012. While there were some minor changes to the requirements for credits, the majority of revisions we made to clarify the standard and remove references to obsolete programs.
The Furniture Sustainability standard provides furniture manufacturers a pathway towards sustainability by providing measureable criteria for multiple levels of achievement and performance. The standard applies to all business and institutional furniture. Sustainability is evaluated product by product based on material content, energy consumption, human and ecosystem health, and social responsibility.
