UL Announces New, Streamlined Process for Safety Testing to UL 962 for Limited Production Commercial Displays

Northbrook, III – August 27, 2019 – UL, a global safety science leader, announced a new streamlined program for safety certification to UL 962, the Standard for Household and Commercial Furnishings. This program was specifically designed for manufacturers of custom commercial displays that have a short production cycle.

Certification to UL 962 provides a thorough assessment of the electrical, mechanical and fire safety of products. In order to maintain a secure retail environment and a great customer experience, it’s critical to verify the safety of product displays in environments where employees, shoppers and children are interacting with merchandise.

In response to manufacturers’ need for a certification for custom commercial displays sold and produced in limited numbers, UL engineered a streamlined certification program for UL 962. This solution provides the same thorough safety assessment, and conducts the evaluation and surveillance inspection with UL labels in a single, one-time project. This allows manufacturers to verify the safety of their products without entering into a multiyear surveillance contract with annual maintenance fees.

“This new limited production certification program is designed to help ensure that all manufacturers of commercial displays, even custom displays for a limited number of stores, can receive a thorough safety certification in a way that is easy and convenient. We built the program to meet the industry’s need for a simple and fast certification program for products that are produced for a short time,” said Michael O’Hara, director of Global Furniture.

LG&P is a leader in the design and production in-store displays and environments for top retailers and brands and is the first to receive the UL 962 safety certification under the streamlined program.

“We offer our retail customers innovative design to drive sales and maximize return on investment, but safety and quality are also essential. UL is a trusted partner in safety testing and their limited production safety program allowed us to ensure the safety of our products in a way that is streamlined and convenient,” said Vanessa Elford, project manager at LG&P.
