On Friday, May 6, U.S. Congressman Bill Huizenga, who represents the 2nd District of Michigan, visited UL’s Furniture Center of Excellence in Holland, Michigan. During the visit, Congressman Huizenga took a tour of the furniture testing laboratory, spoke with UL’s furniture industry leadership about the lab’s history and future plans, and held a town hall with employees to answer their questions about the election and economic outlook for Michigan.
Congressman Huizenga represents a region in Michigan that is home to many of North America’s largest office furniture brands including Herman Miller, Steelcase and Haworth. Congressman Huizenga focused his comments during the “town hall meeting” on how the furniture industry is vital to the economy of West Michigan as well as recognizing the contributions that companies like UL bring to the industry. This was the Congressman’s first visit to the laboratory and he encouraged UL to educate people in the Western Michigan region about our legacy and the work we are doing.
